Rosa J. Young Museum

About the Museum

Concordia’s Rosa Young Museum pays tribute to our fearless and tenacious founder, Dr. Rosa J. Young. Our museum will transport you back in time to 1922, when the seeds of present day Concordia were planted as Alabama Lutheran Academy, later to undergo a name change to Concordia College Alabama. Concordia has proudly stood the test of time for more than 90 years, educating thousands of African American students throughout its history.

Our museum will take you on a trip down memory lane, displaying images and antique classroom furnishings that will allow you to witness first-hand the transformation of Rosa’s legacy from its humble beginnings into thriving college that it is today. The work of Dr. Rosa J. Young as the Mother of Black Lutheranism in Central Alabama is one that will not soon be forgotten, and one that we at Concordia College Alabama will forever honor.
